oyster buy boy #04

ahaha more random typos.  enjoy the late valentines output by nanasheep. *nanosheop **nanosheep.

I got blue-screened again. =.=  this time, when i restarted my computer, my anti-virs got forced to travel several days back in time, making me download 4 mb worth of updates on my 56k.  Several previously deleted files were back on the desktop.  my add/remove programs window nearly didn’t load.

but but but, I found this pretty cool website – 1000 “abstract” wallpapers free for download.  it might have a watermark logo on the bottom right, but that can be easily photoshopped out..unless you choose a complicated wallpaper.  I like mine…nice and simple, like the giraffe and the turtle…or maybe the cow. Duplicates are for different wallpaper sizes. oh, and the cubed watermelons.  Quite a few cute romantic ones, and lots more.  Spend a procrastinative half hour browsing and downloading =).  logo removal can be easily done in mspaint, or photoshop if you have it.  the tree and the sky is pretty neat too.

Bach Chorales

Nano was complaining about a lack of music related posts a while back.  He didn’t specify what, so I’d like yto introduce everyone to the wonderfully simple but delightful chorales by Bach.  They can be found in midi form – the zip file containing all of Bach’s chorales should be under 500 kb.  Unzupped, its around 2.27 mb, but thats over 2 megabytes of midi files, which works out to around several hours worth of chords.  they can be found at

And  yes, I’m feelig lazy. =p thats all for the day.//

Classics Online

February 21, 2007 at 11:32 pm | Posted in facts and figures, website | 2 Comments

There is a online collaborative site, called Project Gutenberg [] which is an online resource of ebooks.  A lot of these are classics for which there are no royalty fees.  There are a lot of authors, a lot of categories.  Over 20,000 books.  And not just English too.  They also have some audio books, a little bit of sheet music, and some useful and not so useful data.  Such as the square root of 4 to a million significant digits.  I downloaded the file – it was what I thought it would be: “2.” followed by a 11 kb worth of zeros.  More useful ones would include the reciprocal of pi to outrageous accuracy.

Several more interesting recommendations would be…searching for authors such a:

-Beatrix Potter (The adventures of Peter Rabbit, including the illustrations)

– H.G. Wells (Time Machine, the shape of things to come…and a lot of others)

After a bit more searching, I discovered

-the papers of Plato,  the philosopher

-Einstien’s paper on relativity

-two books by agatha Christie

-a few bits and peices by James Joyce

-a few Issac Newton books

and probably a lot more which I haven’t found…

Chinese New Year Holiday nearly over, back to school, back to stress, back to working my ass off.//

MTR pondering

February 11, 2007 at 12:10 am | Posted in facts and figures, website | Leave a comment

Imagine an MTR train. Each train has 8 carriages. Lets assume a regularly filled car – not too full, not too empty. Each carriage has 4 pairs of 6 seats, and maybe 8 people hanging around each pair of doorways, of which there are 5 per carriage.

So how many people are there on a “regular” MTR train? (according to my assumptions )…

8 carriages x [(6 sitting x 2 seats x 4 sets ) + (8 standing x 5 doorways)] = 8 x ( 48 + 40) = 8 x 88 = 704

Lets say half are students/kids/senior citizens and the other half are full paying adults. Lets say that they all travel the shortest distance. How much does the MTR earn?

(352 x 2.40) + (352 x 3.80) = 844.80 + 1337.60 = HK$2182.40

Thats like a … guesstimate, but yeah. Random stuff XD. More random figures to be pondered over in the next few days.

Random news summary – all the stuff that you really didn’t need to know but is the most interesting

-soon, people in the UK will be able to use their mobiles to watch Youtube videos and send links and upload movies, via a Youtube mobile service.

-New York is planning to create legislation that will make it illegal to listen to one’s iPod or portable music device or use their blackberries while crossing the road.

-and microsoft announced that clippy, the ever helpful office assistant, was killed. Yes, it is not appearing in office 2007. Not that I ever have one of those annoying animating things while I work.

-on a completetly different note, here is a long article describing recent changes in EA games’ (electronic arts)  game development strategy, in response to the success of the Wii (yay!) and the flagging demand of the PS3 and XBOX 360 (yay!).

Dilbert’s owner’s blog

This got placed in the wrong order, but my website recommendation of the day is… well everyone knows Dilbert, the smart four-eyed dog with a  not-so-smart master whose tie defies gravity.  Meet Scott Adams, their creator, and his blog, which is relatively non-dilbert-ish and fun to read every day, yet retaining his great humour and sarcasm.

Have a nice day =) //
