Blogging, LaTeX and millionaires

wooo, wordpress now supports latex! Like I’d need to use it for inserting equations here ^^”. Just for the hell of it:

E=mc^2

hmmm…something we all have seen sometime in our lives

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

our wonderful quadratic solution.

this is one very powerful typesetting tool. Hardly any of my professors use word to type their papers. LateX is what they use. And it is freeware. Sometimes they make us write our reports in LaTeX just to see us die.

There was a report released a while back, on Hong Kong’s millionaires:

#####

Hong Kong Millionaires

Of the 276,000 Hong Kong people who are millionaires,

51% are women
88% are married
82% invest in stocks
75% own properties
44% have a car
64% read newspaper businesss sections every day

#####

Just…food for thought. This is what real life financially successful people do. What about you?

I kid you not. The other one on the list for today was “cute.pdf” which is logical, because a previous post was about cute pdf, the interesting pdf exporting tool.

“Cute”…PDF?

February 16, 2007 at 1:14 am | Posted in tools | 1 Comment

yeah.  Some people might find this interesting.  If you have fineprint, then don’t bother switching to this great freeware version, CutePDF. What this does is it allows you to “print” files as PDFs.  Basically means you get to save them as PDF files.  Excel, word, powerpoint w/e.  Why would you want to do that?  Well, mostly cos…practically everyone can read PDFs these days.  And not every computer might have your software.  So you “print” it to pdf.  Then everyone can read it.

yup.

And while we’re on the subject of PDF files, why dont you try foxit pdf reader?  Not only is this smaller than Adobe pdf reader, but also if you use windows OS, this program loads waaay faster.  no kidding. I use it.  I uninstalled adobe pdf reader too.  and I’m surviving fine without it.

and the most interesting news of the day!

-a company made a quantum computer.  still a long way to go from doing conventional operations, but they can make it solve sudoku puzzles. ^^”

everything else is boring,  But my 1 week holiday starts now! =D lotsa time for revision (finally).//

Oyster kid

February 10, 2007 at 1:09 am | Posted in comics, tools | 1 Comment

I’m taking a day off. Nano (aka – DK, nanosheep, the guy who takes photos of fire when his house is in flames instead of running away) has been exercising his creativity during his boring lectures and has come up with this “oyster kid”.

okay okay, so maybe not oyster kid, but “Oyster Boy”. at least, thats what Nano likes to call it. He draws them by hand, scans it, and uses mspaint to copy and paste some stuff. Its currently “unnamed” so I’ll name it Oyster Boy #01 until further notice from its creator.

Yup. Great stuff. 😄 English essay complete, two physics hwks handed in, now for next week’s work. T_T Its neverendingg. BTW, CUHK just announced all successful EAS applicants. Congrats to them.

Random News summary

-microsoft was planning to ditch the name “hotmail ” for “windows live mail”,  but it seems like they’ve settled with “windows  live hotmail”

-Apple may be switching from using tiny hard drives  in its portable music devices to using flash drives.

-for all you IE7 users out there (thats internut exploder number 7),  and you really really hate the stupid menu bar position being in the middle of things instead of at the top where it belongs, this site will show you how to make a registry editing file to change it.  Optionally, just download this reg file off my site and run it. note – IE7 only. The menu bar is fine where it is in IE6.

Ouchies

My titles have hardly anything to do with the actual content. But right now…

ouch

Blame my big red spot near my right temple, which hurts. It feels even more exposed, because I just had my hair cut. There hasn’t been a lot of action today. Its just any old monday. But, here is one way to spruce up your computer – don’t you just hate having to use the default miscrofot calculator? Well, there is a more aethetically pleasing one to be found online – meet the ESB calculator. Whats the difference? It just looks better. And it operates more like a normal handheld calculator. Why am I introducing this? I have no idea. When I want to make a calculation, I open up mathematica. Doesn’t that take longer and completely waste the whole point of having such a powerful program? Yes it does. But I don’t care. Its the same reason why people use supercomputers to play games. =p

Summmaries

-I get my stupid English esay under way!

-I yawned at least 4 5 times during the course of writing this entry.

-A theory from the 1950s proposed that a roman legion got lost in modern-day Iran area, so they continued travelling east, stopped at a village lyig near the border of China, and ended up marrying the locals. Some very mo liu scientists are now testing DNA samples of the villagers to see if they really have such random ancestry.

-google is blurring India’s private parts from google earth. Apparently, on the worldwide maps obtained by google for google earth, some nuclear facilities were blurred. Now we have India asking google earth to blur government buildings and whatnot. Of course, this leads to the getaround solution – just search google map for blurry areas. Won’t those be where all the important stuff is?

argh, needta stop procrastinating.//
